I was born on the tiny island of Taiwan in 1983. Two years later, my younger sister arrived; we promptly moved to America and landed in a little town called New Orleans, which is pronounced neither “N’awlins’ or “New Orleeeens.”
Growing up in NOLA gives way to an unique childhood of such things as incredible food, big parades (no school all Mardi Gras week!) and Catholic guilt. My education in Catholicism continued as I attended an all-girl high school where polished shoes were a must. By the time senior year rolled around, I was still clueless about my future. In a strange twist of fate, I fell into the art degree at Washington University in St. Louis (in Missouri, not Washington) and graduated with one of the first Facebook accounts in 2004, some minors and a shiny BFA in Visual Communications.
After a few fun-filled years in St. Louis at Bandolier Group and Hoffman | Lewis, I knew it was time for a change. I picked up everything, backpacked in Europe for a month and moved to Austin, the best little weird place in Texas.
I’m incredibly enthused about trying new things and am most passionate about traveling, sports and food. Since moving to Austin, I’ve dabbled in rock climbing, photography and harmonica among others. When not jumping up and down at a Saints game (WHO DAT) or my Cardinals winning the World Series, I am a dedicated board member and paddler of the Austin Coolers Dragon Boat team (best in Texas!).
Wanderlust set in years ago and has never left. Any chance I get, I’m planning for my next adventure; in the last four years, I’ve been lucky to experience such things as safaring in the Serengeti, climbing Kilimanjaro, spelunking in an ancient Mayan cave in Belize and most recently, hiking the Salkantay Trail to Machu Picchu.
I’m lucky to be doing what I love for a living. I find beauty in typography, peace in smartly-planned interactive experiences and wonder in the constantly changing technologies. (Check out some nerdy design posts I’ve written.)
Now, where to next?
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. — Mark Twain
